Mr Smith's Bowl of Notes surveys the music of the past 400 years. Mr. Smith, an “on-the-run” composer, interrupts a concert and whimsically explains the stylistic differences and similarities between the Baroque, Classic, Romantic and Modern periods of music. He emphasizes the incredible fact that the music of these periods was composed using only 12 notes. He goes on to explain the odd adventure of how he came to be at the concert by using excerpts from the musical styles previously discussed.
Mr. Smith’s Bowl of Notes was commissioned and premiered by conductor, Christopher Confessore and the Brevard Symphony Orchestra (Melbourne, Florida. 2004).
Orchestration: (3pic),2(eh),2,2 4,3,3,1 Timp+2, Harp, Strings, Narrator (acting skills recommended).
